Reading is a lively and friendly town located to the west of London along the M4 corridor,  the University is situated a short 5 minutes walk away the centre of town. The University comprises of several campuses with the largest being Whiteknights Campus accommodating for the majority of the courses provided by the University including the department of Construction, Management and Building Surveying (URS).  Courses

BSc Construction Management and Surveying
This course has been designed primarily to focus on the technical, professional and managerial aspects of construction projects.This is a full time three year programme with students required to have achieved ABB from three A-level subjects or an equivalent qualification.

The course will develop the student’s ability to meet objectives with relation to cost, quality and delivery concerning projects in the construction industry.  Students will learn about how to appreciate and identify technical problems within a complex legal, social and economic environment and how to provide effective and appropriate solutions to a wide range of property problems. The course actively engages students in current developments with specific modules that serve international needs, at community and local levels so students are provided with a range of transferable skills.

BSc Building Surveying
This course is taken as a full time three year programme with students required to have achieved ABB from three A-level subjects or an equivalent qualification.

As a building surveyor you will be able to provide professional advice on all aspects of property and construction, from large to small developments. This work can range from giving advice on conservation to dealing with new developments. Students will learn about how to appreciate and identify technical problems within a complex legal, social and economic environment and how to provide effective and appropriate solutions to a wide range of property problems. The course actively engages students in current developments with specific modules that serve international needs at community and local levels so students are provided with a range of transferable skills.

BSc Construction Management
This course is taken as a full time three year programme with students required to have achieved ABB from three A-level subjects or an equivalent qualification.

This course has been designed primarily to link the design and construction of buildings. It has been developed to focus on the technical, professional and managerial aspects of construction projects. The course will develop the student’s ability to meet objectives with relation to cost, quality and delivery concerning projects in the construction industry. The course actively engages students in current developments with specific modules that serve international needs at community and local levels so students are provided with a range of transferable skills.

BSc Quantity Surveying
This course is taken as a full time three year programme with students required to have achieved ABB from three A-level subjects or an equivalent qualification.

This course attracts students who are interested in buildings, finance, sustainability and technology. This interest is then developed and harnessed by the lecturers and staff so that students learn all of the necessary skills to become a quantity surveyor. A quantity surveyor, in essence, manages all of the costs involved in construction projects with the aim to minimise them and provide solutions to create value for money so that the projects can be delivered to the required quality and on time. The course actively engages students in current developments with specific modules that serve international needs at community and local levels so students are provided with a range of transferable skills.

 Facilities

The school has a friendly and helpful resource room where coursework is handed in and projects are discussed. The computers in the resource room are allocated specifically to students within the department and subsequently are equipped with a range of software packages such as AutoCAD to fully equip students with the necessary tools required in future employment.There is a Business Information Modelling (BIM) lounge which provide students with access to a constantly increasing archive of books and journals catered to meet the students’ needs. Finally there is a new common room which has sofas, desks, computers and refreshment.

 Accreditation

The courses offered are accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
