The university is located in the city of Oxford, the county town of Oxfordshire. Situated a mere fifty miles to the north-west of London, the city boasts excellent transport links and a world-renowned history. The university itself is separated across three campus which span the breadth of the city, however, all three are linked through the impressive public transport infrastructure that Oxford has to offer.

Courses

BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management

The department provides this course through the examination of four main themes (technology, management, project-based learning and practical experience) which enable students to obtain a strong base from which to expand when they become employed in the industry. Construction project management concerns the setting-up, planning, organising and control of building and infrastructure projects, from the client first considering construction through to hand-over and evaluation of the end product. It involves management of people and organisations, money, time and technology. This course is taken over a four year period as students are required to take a work placement throughout their third year of study.

Students are typically offered places for achieving BBC-BCC at A-level; however, exceptions are made in light of previous experience or other factors. All students applying must have achieved a grade C in mathematics at GCSE to apply. All applicants are required to attend an interview where offers and level of offers are dependent on the student’s performance during the interview.

BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management

The department provides this course through the examination of four main themes (technology, management, project-based learning and practical experience) which enable students to obtain a strong base from which to expand when they become employed in the industry. The course provides students with the necessary knowledge to work in quantity surveying where, in essence, they will manage all of the costs involved in construction projects with the aim to minimise them and provide solutions to create value for money so that the projects can be delivered to the required quality and on time. Furthermore, the students are taken through their paces to establish a base of knowledge concerning Commercial Management, thus providing the students with an invaluable set of skills that will be transferred into employment. This course is taken over a four year period as students are required to take a work placement throughout their third year of study.

BSc Real Estate Management

This rewarding course provides you with the knowledge and skills in real estate management that will prepare graduates for membership of the RICS. The Department of Real Estate and Construction offers strong links with the property industry, a strong research base and excellent standards of teaching. Practising property professionals regularly contribute to the teaching both at the University and on field trips.

BA (Hons) Architecture 

Architecture is a creative and fulfilling profession requiring invention, practical skills and technological expertise. An architect must be able to think spatially and communicate their ideas to others verbally and visually. Architects work with clients, contractors, government bodies and specialists such as engineers, to design all aspects of our built environment from very detailed fragments to large-scale urban interventions.

This course gives you the opportunity to learn about the architectural design process and develop your professional skills. You will investigate:

  • the representation of ideas
  • the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit
  • the impact of landscape and cityscape on the design of buildings
  • the integration of design concepts with material form and structure
  • contemporary and future architectural practice.

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture

This course examines contemporary practice in interior architecture and teaches you about our architectural heritage, how buildings work, and how to create high quality spatial experiences. Our open studio culture enables you to learn from high-level research. You will be able to make a critical contribution to the future of the profession – drawing on our vibrant design culture.

 Facilities

Students enrolled in either course have access to a resource centre which accommodates for students studying any discipline under the Faculty of Technology Design and Environment. This facility complements the central library services with the provision of course-specific computer software and access to vast archives of published material and previous dissertations.

Both courses are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
