Nottingham Trent University

 Courses

BSc (Hons) Construction Management

The course can be taken over the standard three years full time but there is the option to take it over a five year period at a part time basis. The course requires students to have a minimum of 240 UCAS tariff points achieved from at least two A-levels or equivalent qualifications. In addition, students will need GCSEs in both English and Mathematics at grade C or above.

This course has been designed primarily to link the design and construction of buildings. It has been developed to focus on the technical, professional and managerial aspects of construction projects. The course will develop the student’s ability to meet objectives with relation to cost, quality and delivery concerning projects in the construction industry.

BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying

The course is taken over a three year period but there is an opportunity to extend it over four years if the student wishes to undertake a one year work placement. The course requires students to have the minimum of 240 UCAS tariff points achieved from at least two A-levels or equivalent qualifications. In addition, students will need GCSEs in both English and Mathematics at grade C or above.

This course attracts students who are interested in buildings, finance, sustainability and technology. This interest is then developed and harnessed by the lecturers and staff so that students learn all of the necessary skills to become a quantity surveyor. A quantity surveyor, in essence, manages all of the costs involved in construction projects with the aim to minimise them and provide solutions to create value for money so that the projects can be delivered to the required quality and on time.

BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management

This course provides the students with the same skills provided by BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying but also provides students with the ability to minimise project expenses without compromising quality. This will require the student to have the ability to negotiate and develop relationships with suppliers as well as strong financial skills in order to become a successful construction commercial manager.

The course requires students to have at least 280 UCAS tariff points achieved from at least two A-levels or equivalent qualifications. In addition, students will need GCSEs in both English and Mathematics at grade C or above. The course can be taken over three years or four years if a work placement is undertaken by the student during their time at university.

BArch Architecture

A series of practical and theoretical projects in a variety of spatial, social and cultural situations. The purpose of these projects is to align architectural concepts, thinking and values with current architectural thought and practice. Projects involve strategic thinking and creative imagination, attention to detail, traditional and digital forms or representation, public presentation and reviews.

In your final year, you will exhibit your work as part of our Degree Shows at the University. The Degree shows include all final year students across NTU’s Art and Design-based courses, and are a great platform for you to celebrate your studies and showcase your work to members of the creative industries.

BSc  Architecture Technology

This challenging course explores new design ideas and technological advancements, helping you to design and construct buildings effectively, safely and economically, whilst considering how new and existing buildings may have an impact on the environment. As a specialist in Architectural Technology, you’ll be the link between concept and reality. You’ll learn to identify, assess and challenge client and user requirements, translating ideas and possibilities into effective and practical building solutions.

BA  Interior Architecture and Design

If you are interested in the design and development of internal spaces in relation to their overall architectural composition then this is the course for you. You will develop an understanding of how structure, colour and light are used to create practical, useful and stimulating environments. This will give you the complete package of skills, knowledge and experience to develop your career as an interior architect. The course is delivered through lots of practical work including:

  • group projects
  • study trips
  • real-life projects from industry and competitions.

Bsc & BEng Civil Engineering

This course will provide you with the design and professional skills required to be a successful civil engineer. It is taught through standard and project-based modules, providing a sound knowledge of engineering principles, together with the ability to apply them to practical problems.

You will be prepared to take on the challenges of developing and maintaining the infrastructure required by the world at large.

 Facilities

The department provides students the opportunity to take advantage of a resource centre located in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment (Maudslay Building). This centre is equipped with computers, desk space and access to both the latest and archived journals relating to the course.

In addition dedicated laboratory spaces are provided which enable students to make full use of a hydraulics and concrete testing lab. The main university library has a dedicated library liaison officer who has specialist construction subject knowledge to assist students in finding the necessary material to help students with their work.

All courses are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)and course BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management is also accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia.
