Researchers say newly invented technology has unprecedented efficiency in converting sunlight to electricity.

Researchers in Switzerland say they they have found a far more efficient way of using solar power than ever achieved before.

Imagine a power system that could harness the energy of 2,000 suns and provide fresh water and air conditioning in remote locations. Not only that but it would be completely renewable, be able to provide the entire world’s energy supplies and only take up two per cent of the Sahara Desert’s land area.

The new system is capable of converting almost half the sunlight they absorb into electricity, which is vastly more than what current solar technologies provide.

Their advanced solar technology could deliver electricity and fresh water to remote locations.
